As a teacher of Engineering, I have always had a passion for making objects and working with materials. It is only in the last year that I have had the confidence to channel this passion into creating garden sculptures.
I strive to create simple forms that enhance a garden rather than overpower it. Many of my sculptures are designed to help frame a view or draw your eye an otherwise forgotten corner. The materials I use are meant to complement and echo the colours and textures found within a garden.
I do not try and hide the processes and materials I use to make the sculptures. In many cases, the welding is left rough and the concrete bases have imperfections. I believe, that this approach leads to a more natural and authentic piece of work.
Originally from Leeds, I studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne before settling in York to pursue a teaching career.
